 Frequently Asked Questions

  • HanselCounsel is an online counselling practice for those who are seeking help for their mental health lead by Hansel Wong, a licensed counsellor and mental health advocate with a masters degree in counselling and years of private practice.

  • Counselling is a 60-minute therapy session involving the practical application of psychology theories to safely explore issues that a person is going through. This provides individuals with a space to explore the underlying purpose and cause of everything from their issues, as well as helps guide individuals towards solutions to their issues.

  • Clients find comfort in voicing their true thoughts and feelings in a safe space. This can be about depression, anxiety and stress, or revolve around life issues such as relationships, life changes, work environment, or internal struggles.

  • The first session usually starts with a quick explanation on what therapy is about and answering any questions that you might have, followed by a deep exploration into what seems to be the presenting issues. As counsellors, we hope to end the session establishing what the goals of therapy are, as this will give our clients clarity and direction.

  • As non-medical allied health care professionals, we do not prescribe medication. We are able to provide an assessment to whether medication is needed.

  • Yes, people who are looking for a quick assessment of their mental health can sign up for a mental health assessment with a 30 minute consultation.

  • Unfortunately, there is no fixed answer to this question. It depends on various factors such as complexity of issue and how long it has been going on for, clients determination, counsellors abilities, therapeutic relationship, and many more. However, The American Psychological Association (2017) showed that on average 15 to 20 sessions are required for 50% of clients to recover.

  • Please seek the nearest emergency medical services that are available to you, i.e. the emergency department of your local hospital or call your mental health helpline.
